Almost two-thirds of Internet users worldwide (64%) use at least one music streaming service, according to a study published by GlobalWebIndex. This rises to 76% for 16-24 year-olds and drops gradually in line with the age of the users polled.

Although music streaming is now an everyday part of many people's lives, the most popular services differ from one continent to the next.

According to data from GlobalWebIndex, in Europe, 22% of users use Spotify, 8% use SoundCloud and 7% use Deezer. Spotify is also the clear market leader (46%) in Latin America, again ahead of SoundCloud (16%) and Deezer (12%). In North America, however, Pandora (28%) takes the lead over Spotify (25%), while in Asia, Chinese services dominate the market, namely QQ Music (33%) and KuGou (28%). SoundCloud has the lion's share of users (43%) in Africa and the Middle East.

Market leader Spotify boasts 169.5 million users in Q1 2018, including 74.5 million paid users.

The figures are based on data compiled by GlobalWebIndex in Q4 2017, from 80,267 Internet users worldwide aged 16-64 years old. — AFP Relaxnews
