As technology advances faster and faster, it's only natural that older devices will be left behind and eventually forgotten, even as sentiment for these elderly objects stays strong in some circles.

A survey conducted in Germany points to this collective forgetting, showing that most people between ages 10 and 18 – 88% – don't know what a pager is – a radio device that can receive short messages and notify its wearer about calls.

Only a few more knew of the MiniDisc, a digital storage medium from the 1990s that was meant to replace the audio cassette. Seventy-five people admitted to the survey takers not knowing what it was at all.

The results don't get better: Only one in two respondent knew what a Walkman was, while 56% were unsure what a floppy disc is.

For the results, 915 children and teenagers between ages 6 and 18 were surveyed over the phone. – dpa
