PETALING JAYA: The ill-fated Highland Towers in Taman Sri Ukay, Ampang will finally be demolished, and torn down in one month’s time, according to Zuraida Kamaruddin.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said this while answering questions from the press on Friday (Sept 14) at the Kota Damansara People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats.

Zuraida said that after several meetings with the developer and the Insolvency Department, the Highland Towers Redevelopment Committee had finally reached its solution and identified all owners.

“The demolition will take place as soon as we clear all the technicalities of insolvency issues,” she said.

The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will be tasked with organising the demolition.

“We are hoping that by December, the committee will formulate plans for redevelopment at the site,” Zuraida added.

She said there was a need to revise the ministry’s policies on abandoned projects as some procedures needed to be simplified and sped up.

She also said that there were a total of 82 abandoned project sites across Selangor.
