PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is listed as one of 72 countries that criminalise homosexuality, but take a closer look at the laws and you'd discover it's not really that simple.  

Outside of Syariah law, Malaysia does not have any law criminalising homosexuality per se. What it does have is section 377 of the Penal Code, which criminalises the act of sodomy, but has not been used to prosecute homosexual couples.
