Four trawlers seized, 13 fishermen nabbed in prohibited zones off Penang

Two ships belonging to a local company were seized with 10 tonnes of illegal catch off Miri.

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian authorities have detained 13 fishermen and four fishing trawlers for operating in prohibited zones between Pulau Kendi and Pulau Rimau, southwest of the island here.

Penang Fisheries Department director Noraisyah Abu Bakar said the suspects – three locals and 10 Thai nationals – were arrested at 1.20am Saturday (July 6) in a joint operation by the Marine police and the Penang Fisheries Department.
