KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has contacted Indonesian authorities to seek assistance in tracking down Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos.

Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) said he would make sure the Sungai Besar Umno division chief is brought to justice.

“If it was up to me, I would want him arrested today.

“We have contacted the Indonesian authorities and every effort is being made to track him down,” he told a press conference after his working visit to Bukit Aman on Monday (June 4).

A Chinese daily has reported that Jamal has fled to and hiding in Indonesia.

Jamal fled police custody after failing to complete his bail process some two weeks ago.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jamal last Friday (June 1) by the Ampang magistrate's court for the offence of escaping or resisting police custody.

He had earlier promised but failed to present himself to the police on May 30, but later released a video of himself at an oil palm plantation where he claimed there was an effort by certain parties to direct the police to frame him at any cost.

He also appealed to the police to give him time to turn himself in.

Jamal has been charged with at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5, 2017.
