ROAD closures at the Geo Industry Park and Jalan BS 7/7 in Subang Jaya have reduced illegal dumping in the area, and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) said it would step up surveillance there to stamp it out.
Council deputy president Mohd Zulkarnain Che Ali, accompanied by enforcement officers, made a site visit recently together with Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, who is also the state Local Government Committee chairman.
When they arrived, they saw a pile of rubbish being burned.
There were also several piles of industrial, commercial and domestic waste along Jalan BS 7/7 and around the industrial area.
According to Mohd Zulkarnain, those who flout the council’s illegal dumping and open burning bylaws would be fined RM1,000 for each offence.
“Some use this place (Jalan BS 7/7) as an illegal dumpsite because it's secluded. Motorists use an alternative road after we closed off part of the road.
“We will clear the rubbish, and this cost of clearing rubbish on private land will be charged to the respective landowners,” he said.
Ean Yong said indiscriminate dumping there had been going on for years in the area.
“Business owners at the industrial area are responsible for hiring legal waste collection contractors and must ensure that they send the waste to a legal dumpsite.
“We just got a photo of a van dumping rubbish at Jln BS 7/7 last week and will check which company it belongs to,” he said.
According to Ean Yong, the state was serious about resolving the problem.
