Mestron teams up with Platinum Core to provide BBU system

Scomi Group Bhd surprised investors when it proposed to revise its current issued share capital reduction from RM224.96mil to RM3mil from the earlier RM40mil.

KUALA LUMPUR: Steel pole manufacturer Mestron Holding Bhd is teaming up with Platinum Core Solutions Sdn Bhd (PCS) to provide a centralised base band unit (BBU) system to mobile network operators.

PCS Centralised developed the BBU system as a network solution to boost internet speed, according to Mestron.

The system, it said on Monday, is a carrier neutral network solution for all mobile network operators and is managed centrally at a centralised facility hosted by PCS.

Apart from boosting Internet speed in a limited radius, the smart poles that are required for the implementation of the centralised BBU systems have features including broadband transmission (4G & 5G), surveillance cameras to improve public security and wireless network components (public WIFI).

PCS is a licensed network services and network facilities provider under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 specialising in unique mobile telecommunications and enterprise network solutions.

PCS has to date entered into a Centralised BBU Solution Managed Services Agreement with a licensed Network Service Provider in Malaysia to provide solutions for centralized baseband unit that converts cellular baseband signals into radio frequency signals.

Mestron managing director Por Teong Eng said its unit Mestron Engineering Sdn Bhd had signed an MoU to collaborate for the project.

“Mestron and PCS will work together to implement the Centralised BBU project and such other projects as may be identified and agreed by both companies.

“The proposed collaboration also provides an opportunity for Mestron to leverage on the favourable outlook of the telecommunication infrastructure industry, specifically through the periodic roll out of 5G technology in Malaysia,” Por added.

To-date, Mestron has supplied steel poles to various high-profile construction projects such as East Klang Valley Expressway project, Coastal Highway Southern Link project, LRT Ampang line extension project, Sungai Buloh – Kajang MRT project and Bukit Jalil Sport Complex refurbishment project.
