Wahid calls for unity among Malaysians


PETALING JAYA: The country is facing some challenges especially the fragility of our relationship among Malaysians, according to Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, the former Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) chairman.

In a Whatsapp message, Wahid noted the importance of relationship and understanding between people from different race, religion, region and political affiliation.”

“In His Majesty’s Speech, His Majesty spoke on the importance of unity and how the unity and peace that has been built for 62 years, if lost, will be hard to restore. It is a profound message, ” he said.

5- “In conjunction with Malaysia Day 2019, let us play our respective part, be constructive and embrace and practise the spirit of Rukun Negara (1970) with its five stated objectives,“ Wahid said.

The five objectives are:

- Achieving greater unity among all communities;

- Preserving a democratic way of life;

- Creating a just society where the prosperity of the country can be enjoyed together in a fair and equitable manner;

- Developing a liberal approach towards rich and varied cultural traditions; and

- Building a progressive society that will make use of science and modern technology.
