BANGKOK: The Royal Thai Police should be commended for their success in the “home surveillance scheme” in which homeowners register with local police to put their houses under watch while they spend carefree holidays elsewhere.

The special service, available only during major public holidays like the New Year and Songkran, has proved to be an effective measure against burglaries.
