Still at snail’s pace 20 years later

I REFER to the various media reports on the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s efforts to upgrade Internet speeds especially in rural areas, and the success of the mandatory standard access pricing (MSAP) system. This is definitely a laudable move by the ministry as the country moves towards 5G technology.

However, some residents in the city of Johor Baru are still on 2Mbps Internet broadband despite making numerous requests for their service provider to upgrade the speed. When I bought my house in the 90s, the developer told me that this part of the new township, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, would be installed with high-speed optic fibre. When we moved into the house, our Internet speed was 2Mbps for about RM130 per month. It’s already more than 20 years and we are still getting the same Internet speed at the same charge.
